One person claimed that their genius bar fixed the problem for free outside of warranty because it was an unofficial Apple recall. From what I can tell, (at a minimum) dozens of people have had this problem, and so far there are no official responses from Apple. It'll probably go black again after a second, but you should be able to see your screen for a moment. Not so for the white one.ĭim the screen all the way, then brighten it by one. It also randomly occurs when my Black Macbook wakes form sleeping, but on that machine, putting it to sleep and waking it back up usually fixes it. The OS definitely doesn't matter, since the problem can be seen even during booting. We just had it happen to a 2008 White Macbook that's still running Snow Leopard. I've opened it up carefully but to get into the area where the screen connects looks more complex than I'm ready to deal with. I thought maybe it was a loose connection where the screen attaches to the board inside. Could that affect it?Ĭould it be hardward related? But if that's the case, how could I temporarily adjust the brightness and have it stick for a while? I've reformatted the drive, reinstalled the software and it's not any better. I notice sometimes that when I press the start button, the right side of the screen wants to light up, but it never spreads to the left to light up the whole screen. But it goes black now at the point the white screen and Apple logo should be coming on. When I turn it on the gray screen comes on prior to the white with gray apple logo. Now I can't even faintly see it to mess with the brightness slider. When I came back to check the next day it was black again. I once had it stay bright for about 30 minutes after playing with the brightness slider. I could slide it back and forth from dark to bright and it would work fine for a while, then go off again. For a while I could faintly see the screen, but it was so dark I had to turn all the lights off in the room and I could navigate with pointer to open prefs and grab brightness slider. Every once in a while I start and the desktop shows up, but then goes black. Next, click the “OK” option in iTunes, and then click to restore. My white MacBook screen goes black and won't come back on. Once in DFU mode, your iPhone will display a black screen.
